At Tank, we don’t just make wine—we make noise.
California Sound is our tribute to the soul of the Golden State, where surfboards, guitars, and vineyards all ride the same wave. Inspired by the reverb-drenched riffs of surf rock legends and the free-spirited pulse of coastal California, this wine is our way of turning up the volume on what makes this place so damn special.
Sourced entirely from the historic San Benito County AVA, this blend draws its character from a region shaped by time, terroir, and the ocean’s touch. Tucked between the Gabilan Range and the Santa Lucia Mountains, San Benito enjoys a moderate climate with cooling maritime breezes flowing in from the Pacific, creating ideal conditions for ripening grapes with freshness, balance, and nuance.
We dig through these old vineyards like crate diggers searching for rare vinyl—discovering obscure, forgotten, or just plain rad grapes like Primitivo, Sangiovese, Montepulciano, and Valdiguié, a long-misunderstood French variety that once went by “Napa Gamay” in California. Blended with some classic California muscle in Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel, this is our remix—something that feels nostalgic and fresh all at once. The wine opens with aromas of strawberries, tobacco leaf, rhubarb pie, violets, and dried herbs. On the palate, it grooves with cherry, red plum, and pomegranate, carried by juicy acidity, savory minerality, and a mouthwatering finish.
This isn’t your Nonno’s wine. It’s California’s remix of old-school Italian soul—wild, expressive, and built to be enjoyed!
The label for California Sound channels the same electric energy as the wine inside—a fusion of surf culture, music history, and bold California spirit. A faceless figure strikes a laid-back surfer pose, clutching a vintage Telecaster guitar—paying homage to the legends of surf rock and the rhythm of the Pacific. The motion of the brushstroke’s echoes crashing waves and guitar reverb, while sun-washed tones of pink and green reflect the faded beauty of coastal California. It's a visual riff on our remix approach to winemaking—bold, nostalgic, and totally original.
