Bust out your Bowie, your Duran Duran, and your Talking Heads tapes because we’re entering our New Wave era.
To understand this wine and the importance of November 17th, you’ll need a quick history lesson. Each year on the third Thursday of November, we celebrate Beaujolais Nouveau Day, which marks the first release of the year's vintage in Beaujolais, France. Traditionally made from Gamay grapes, the fruit is harvested just weeks prior to bottling. After a five-day-long celebration leading up to Beaujolais Nouveau day, fireworks at midnight mark the release of the new wine, which is then drunk until dawn. Nouveau wines employ carbonic maceration and are known for their fun, fruity flavors, meant to be consumed just after their release.
Bottled on the 4th of November, New Wave Nouveau is made from the inaugural harvest of Mourvèdre grapes at Rocca Vineyard in Amador County, CA. Harnessing the power of Carbonic Maceration, this wine went from grape to bottle in under 12 weeks (Yes, you read that right). It tastes like tart cranberries, looks like rubies glittering in the sun, and is fresh and funky in all the best ways.
Try this wine with Thanksgiving favorites like roast turkey, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce – you'll thank us later.
In a lot of ways, this Nouveau wine and others like it remind us of the New Wave era, a post-punk music revolution that brought us fun, quirky, and vivacious music packed with synthesizer melodies and catchy lyrics. Lighthearted in its approach, New Wave emerged as the softer counterpart to Punk Rock, yet still possessing a cool sense of individuality and irreverence. It only made sense to choose a vintage new wave collage cut up for our label to symbolize this vibrant natural wine.
Perfect for the holiday table, New Wave Nouveau is meant to be consumed in its youth. So crank the music, pour a glass and let the party begin.
