hey u up?
You will be once Future Fckboy touches your tongue, shawty. Aside from tasting delicious, this wine holds a special, sentimental place in our hearts. Let us explain.
'Twas the night of September 16, 2021, and we were gearing up to receive some organically-farmed French Colombard from our friends in Green Valley the next morning. That was until Bertus's phone blew up. "Hey, the crew can't get there, so we aren't going to pick it." This fruit would rot on the vine. Our hearts were naturally shattered.
But this hiccup wasn't about to mess with our plans. B (if you're on the in, you call Bertus "B") quickly sprang to action with an idea. We could pick it. And after a few texts to the team, we would pick it.
Our team arrived before dawn and watched the sunrise together, blanketed by the warm morning air of September. Bertus plugged all the supplies we would need: picking bins, pruning shears, and Mexican beer. And after a round of stretching and calisthenics, we were off. And there we were, in the vineyard, picking grapes, blasting old songs, living the life. That never dream alone shit, you know? After a few hours, we filled a truck full of macro bins, and it was time to bring our grapes back to smash.
For some reason, we refer to Colombard as "French" Colombard here in the states. Perhaps because it kisses with tongue? Anyways, this French variety is the love child of Chenin Blanc and Gouais Blanc and is one of the white grape varieties permitted in Bordeaux. While this grape was historically used in cognac, we in the wine world enjoy its crisp, tart flavors and pretty aromatics.
Back at our place, we put the grapes directly to the press, racked the juice to a mix of stainless steel and neutral French oak barrels, and waited. We would eventually bottle the wine with no sulfur, which should make you natty kids out there happy.
On the nose, beautiful tropical notes of pineapple and wet straw slide into your DMs. Once in your mouth, though, this juice stirs up mouthwatering flavors of tart pear, Fuji apple, and lemongrass with brisk minerality. The finish is clean and crisp.
For a white wine, it's pretty thirsty. And we knew that early on. As we kept tasting it throughout the months, it got even more and more indulgent. It wants your attention and has all the right moves to get them. So Future Fckboy it became.
