Behold, Crushed Hearts - a radiant carbonic white wine that shimmers like a precious diamond in the glass. On the nose, this wine is a heavenly blend of butterscotch, whipped cream, juicy pineapple, and golden apple, evoking memories of carefree summer days. On the palate, Crushed Hearts unleashes a burst of tropical flavors including luscious pineapple, tangy guava, and spicy cinnamon, followed by refreshing hints of kiwi and cantaloupe. The silky mouthfeel is simply divine, leaving behind a lingering finish that is both crisp and satisfying. Perfect for any occasion, but especially for indulging in a burrito in the afternoon sun at Dolores Park.
Crushed Hearts brings together the best of four grape varieties, Albariño, Gewürztraminer, Greco, and Falanghina, all from the fertile soils of Solano County. The carbonic maceration method used in this wine produces a fresh, fruity, and vibrant wine that truly captures the essence of California sunshine. If you're new to carbonic maceration, here's a quick recap. We take whole clusters of grapes and seal them in a fermentation vessel pumped full of carbon dioxide. Without any oxygen present, the grapes enzymatically ferment from the inside out and finish fermentation with native yeast. The whole process is pretty mind-bending and though most of the world uses the technique strictly for red wines, our team likes to march to the beat of their own drum. We first started experimenting with carbonic white wines in 2019 with Going Home and haven't looked back since.
Every sip of Crushed Hearts is like a journey through time and space, a beautiful fusion of four grape varieties that bring together the best of their respective worlds. The label of Crushed Hearts comes from a cropped portion of a photo James took of some random street graffiti, layered with old torn posters in a back alley in Florence, Italy in 2019. The name of the wine, Crushed Hearts, was inspired by the pink heart-shaped image directly below the angel's face of sorrow. The label captures the spirit of street art, with its vibrant, creative, and ephemeral style.
