To hell with living in a societal matrix that tells us what to wear, how to do our hair and what lipstick to put on before going out on Saturday night. Fuck pearls and perfectly manicured nails – we’re about showing up with neon hair, too much makeup and a rebel attitude. Angels With Dirty Faces is about defying convention and staying true to our crazy, out-of-this-world authentic selves rather than getting wrapped up in society’s stifling “etiquette” for life.
Sauvignon Blanc might be one of the more mainstream varieties out there, but don’t let that fool you. There’s nothing mainstream about this wine. Prior to blending, most of the Sauvignon Blanc was aged for twelve months in a mix of new and neutral French oak. Another portion was aged in stainless steel and went through a spontaneous partial malolactic fermentation (we dare you to say that three times). But that’s not even the coolest part. Staying true to our punk-rock mindset, we cut in some foot-stomped skin-fermented Viognier to add a bit more texture and round out the Sauvignon Blanc’s brisk acidity.
Bertus has long been a fan of white Bordeaux wines, and after happening upon a few lots of Napa Valley and Sonoma Sauvignon Blanc, we knew the time was right. The Napa portion comes from the cooler-climate Oak Knoll AVA where the clay loam soils, combined with the San Pablo Bay cooling influences, are ideal for ripening Sauvignon Blanc. The Sonoma portion also comes from a cooler growing site on a small organically farmed vineyard near the town of Kenwood known for producing crisp, bright & fruity Sauvignon Blanc with harmonious acidity.
So, what’s the wine like? Well, for starters, the aromatics are ON. FUCKING. POINT. We’re talkin’ green melon, pineapple, candied jalapeno, jasmine and a hint of almond. On the palate, this wine turns things up a notch with some creamy pineapple upside-down cake vibes, banana Laffy Taffy and a hint of melon.
For the label, we worked with Montreal mixed-media artist, Anthony ‘TEETZ’ Pecoraro (@saint_teetz). TEETZ found his passion for art at a young age and at 16 knew he wanted to become a professional photographer. His first art show featured a series of bleached photos, which he says was a catalyst to his mixed-media art pieces much like the one featured on the bottle. TEETZ’s artwork draws inspiration from urban environments, blending old Hollywood Glamour with grimy underground subculture.
