Under any sky, across any lifetime, our stars will find each other.
If we had a dollar for every time we opened up an email, DM, whatever these last five years to read "BRING BACK STARS," we would be very wealthy garagistes. Well, we've heard you, people, and Stars Like Ours is back!...in limited quantities.
Upon release nearly 10 years ago, Stars Like Ours was on the forefront of California Rosés made in a clean, crisp Provençal style. See, back in the day, before the Rosé boom, many California wineries produced Rosé almost as an afterthought or a byproduct. Using the "saignée" method, they would bleed off juice from a red wine and bottle it as a bolder, riper Rosé.
We had fallen in love with the style of Rosé produced in Southern France, which was typically lighter in color and body, dryer, and featured more robust aromatics and acidity. To achieve these characteristics, we couldn't just bleed off some red wine, we had to take a different approach. With the original Stars Like Ours, we sourced the specific grape varieties, from the most optimal regions, and picked them earlier to preserve this level of freshness.
Stars Like Ours was ahead of its time in many ways (humble, we know), and that is why it holds such a legendary regard amongst old school Tank fans. And so on our 10th anniversary, we brought it back.
This bottling is formed around Grenache, Cinsault, Mourvèdre and a few others from the Sierra Foothills region. This area has a Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and cooler nights due to the elevation. This diurnal temperature variation helps maintain acidity in the grapes, which is essential for vibrant, fresh Rosé.
Harvested in early September, these grapes were lightly pressed and then sent off to stainless-steel tanks for fermentation and extended aging. And if you are a fan of our Rosés, let us just say, we nailed this one.
This limited-edition bottling features a light-salmon hue and a full bouquet of tropical fruit aromas. On the palate, it delivered flavors of fresh-cut watermelon, strawberry, lychee, and rose petals, wrapped around mouthwatering acidity. The finish is clean and refreshing, just like the original.
Like many early Tank wines, the label captures classic Americana dreams and angst. This specific image is an old family photo from a Golden State road trip. Each night, the couple would camp at a different California site and look up to the sky, trying to find their shared destiny in the cosmos. Maybe they didn't realize it at the time, but life has a way of showing us there are no other stars like ours.
Remember us in the night sky.
